It’s Okay If All You Do Today Is Get Through It

Hello, dear friends. I’m keeping this message brief today, and we’re just going to check in. Because I get the feeling, we’re all going through it right now. The treadmill of life is glitching and we are struggling to keep up with an often-unrealistic pace. So, let’s slow down. I mean it. Say “no” to something. Put your phone in a different room. Listen to a song that drips into your soul like sweet honey on the comb of your heart. Eat the food that brings you joy. Read a book for fun. Pick up one of those hobbies you’ve started in the vast valley of unfinished projects.

This Midweek Message is a little late today, it happens. Life is a lot, but we share life as people who live in community. So, if this pastor can’t demonstrate the humanness of a failed deadline, and affirm that it really is going to be okay, then how can I claim to be living into the grace of which I also preach?

If things don’t get done on time today or fit your own self-curated idea of perfection in a world that is always asking more of you, that’s okay. It really is. Sometimes life is too much. And there can be an awful lot of awful in this world. But you, you absolutely beautiful child of God, are always enough. Even on the days when you can barely get out of bed, or string a sentence together, and forget to brush your teeth, or drink enough water. Even when you notice the day has gone, and you feel like you have nothing to show for it. So often we illuminate a string of unkind thoughts in our heads, a “no vacancy” sign, sequestering ourselves to an isolating place. You deserve tenderness, friends. I’m grateful that you all exist. Be so gentle with yourselves. It’s okay if all you do today is simply get to the end of the day.
