The Journey - Spiritual Renewal Retreat
The Journey is a program of Friends Congregational Church (UCC) in College Station, Texas. The Journey seeks to renew Christian discipleship among those who participate. The Journey is a three-day spiritual renewal retreat that takes a Biblical look at Christianity as a lifestyle. It is a short course of basic Christian principles and practices presented through a highly structured weekend of study, prayer, and fellowship. Like other spiritual renewal events in the Cursillo Tradition, The Journey brings the individual to an encounter with Christ as part of God's grace-filled community. The Journey is designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people, and through them, their families, congregations, and the world in which they live. The Journey is an effort toward the renewal of the church.
The Purpose Of The Journey
The purpose of The Journey is to help those who participate to grow in their relationship with God as revealed in Jesus Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and to strengthen their understanding and participation in their local church. The Journey aims to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members to be disciples of Jesus Christ who will bring new vision to their churches and who will return from the weekend with renewed commitment to offer the love of Christ to the world in which they live.
What Happens At The Journey?
The Journey is a 72-hour coeducational spiritual retreat experience for adults. The weekend begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday evening. At The Journey, participants spend three busy, but enjoyable, days at a retreat center or camp. Participants and the leadership team live and study together in singing, prayer, worship, and discussion. Discussions center around 12 talks given by laity and clergy on the basic principles and practices of the Christian faith. The talks present the theme of God's grace, how that grace comes alive within individuals and within the Christian community, and expresses itself in the world. Each day includes the celebration of Holy Communion as participants are invited to begin to understand more fully the presence of Christ within the greater Christian community.
