Welcome to Friends Congregational Church UCC

A note from Pastor Dan:

Thank you to so many of you who've expressed a desire to help our neighbors in the Houston area suffering from the effects of Hurricane Harvey. We are still in a phase of first response, where there is only so much we can do from where we are.For example, the Texas Baptist Men's group was dispatched to Houston only to be turned around today due to there being no way for them to enter the city. With roads flooded, first responders are advising that everyone stay away unless: 1) you have a boat, and 2) you are trained in first response rescue. Until the waters recede, we're left with few options. But that doesn't mean we can't help. To meet immediate needs, you can give to the Houston Food Bank, the Houston Diaper Bank, or United Way of Greater Houston. Additionally, the South Central Conference, United Church of Christ is working with the United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries to devise a more long-term assistance plan. Stay tuned for details, and give to these ongoing efforts. Finally, BTHOharvey, the official TAMU student effort to provide relief to those effected by Hurricane Harvey, is collecting “needed goods” of non-perishable foods, non-expired canned goods, packaged water, first aid kits, diapers, feminine hygiene products, generators, tarps, air compressors, tire repair kits, square shovels, clothing, gas cans, gas nails, hammers, batteries, rainboots, flash lights, phone chargers, power strips, towels, blankets pillows, cots, and boxes for transportation at six Donation Drop Off sites at various dates and times from now through the weekend. Regardless of how you choose to help in this liminal time, let's turn our anxiousness to God, our ever-present help in times of trouble, in our ceaseless prayers. Lord, in your mercy, be with those devastated by this flooding; and calm us in our anxious scurrying to be effective providers of healing and hope in the coming days.
